Here is what I am thinking. I see two ways.

WAY 1:

Serious enhancement. Create another class similar to TimeBasedRollingPolicy, but with more explicit parameters and enhanced behavior. Not sure how hard it will be.

The parameters should be:

periodicity - monthly, weekly, daily, etc.

rolling time - depending on periodicity, it should specify all datetime units smaller than that periodicity; for example, in daily case it should specify hour, minute, second, etc. For weekly, it should start with the day of week, then hour, etc.

filename pattern - the same as usual, but it should not drive any logic related to the rolling, this is only for the filename format. The point is, even for daily case you may want to clearly see when exactly the file started.

I would also do one more convenient thing (I utilize it myself and find very useful, but unfortunately it is outside logback): as soon as the new logfile is created, it already is fully named, with the pattern, but also a symbolic link with the short name is there pointing to the current log. At least this feature should be optional.

WAY 2:
Quick hack: allow to specify in configuration the time zone for the rolling logic. This way I can have it with 1 hour precision.
Or maybe it is possible to do it now, I just don't know how?
