According to http://logback.qos.ch/manual/layouts.html#PatternLayout
'%throwable' can be used in a pattern, but it is rejected with the message
'[throwable] is not a valid conversion word'. %ex does work and this is also
clear from the source of PatternLayout.java. So either the documentation needs
to be changed or the source adapted to include %throwable.
