Thank you for this report.

As of logback version 0.9.12 (to be released on November 28th), FileAppender and RollingFileAppender support the Prudent mode where multiple JVM instances can write to the same file. However, compression is not supported in prudent mode. Please see if logback version 0.9.12 meets your requirements. In the mean time, I am closing this issue as "INCOMPLETE".
