I wouldn't have used the word "alienates" - "excludes" is probably more accurate. But I was kind of joking anyway (hence the smiley). By using French the message conveyed is that you would prefer someone who is fairly local to you as opposed to someone in the US, Australia, etc., which is perfectly fine if that is what you intended.
