For some applications we do not know upfront how many instances will run.

Every instance starts its own log file (choosing part of the logfile name dynamically - for example pid).

As the filename changes for each startup old log files are not picked up and archived.

For this use case it would be ideal to be able to configure archiving on shutdown. So when the JVM stops the active log files would get gzipped and archived.
