[logback-user] logback performance clarification

Hello Andy,
I think that our current example is pretty different to what Ryan Lowe tried to
measure. Here, there is no such thing as an Exception or stack trace to navigate,
which is what modified his measures in an important manner. It all comes down to
measuring how quickly an int comparison can be done. Logback and log4j are not
designed the same way. There are less treatment that needs to be done before
comparing the levels when using logback than log4j and this is what makes logback faster.
Also, to be sure that the code is "hot" enough, all methods are run twice, and only
measured the second time. Since a method is run 1'000'000 times each time it is run,
I guess that it's enough to warm the code up :)
Anyway, after we've studied and modified the code in the Logger class, it appears
that the results I first posted were not strange, only logical. The code was simply
less optimized as it is now. I even wrote that we thought that our parametrized
calls could not be faster than log4j or logback's isDebugEnabled() calls, and it is
faster, now :)
Until now, I've never tried JProfiler. I'll definitely take a look at it and run the
tests again when I have some time for it.
