[logback-user] symlink to logback.xml doesn't work

Hi all,
I have developed a web app which uses logback and now I'm creating
debian packages to ease its deployment. Following a sysadmin's advice,
the package puts logback.xml at /etc/myapp/ and creates a symlink at
/var/lib/tomcat5.5/webapps/myapp/WEB-INF/classes/.
Even though the approach makes logical sense, we now realized that it
doesn't work, the logging configuration just doesn't get loaded. On that
same deployment, if we delete the symlink and put a copy of logback.xml
instead, everything works back again.
Has anyone faced this kind of issue? Any idea of why this is happening?
Thanks in advance,
