PatternLayout (http://logback.qos.ch/manual/layouts.html#ClassicPatternLayout)
can present dates in many ways.  If that is not sufficient, perhaps the section
titled "Creating a custom conversion specifier" in the same document would be
relevant?

I am pretty sure that logback could have solved your needs without having to do
more than perhaps subclass one or two standard classes.
